出了「Overview of Windows XP Service Pack 3」 細節預覽說明手冊，對於 SP3
的內容和細節詳加說明。微軟強調，XP Service Pack 3 將包含 Windows XP 的所有更新程式，包括一些新
功能特性。而安裝 Service Pack 3 並不會明顯改變 Windows XP 的使用者體驗，
Windows XP Service Pack 3 不會有 Vista 的一些功能。XP Service Pack 3 包含 Windows XP 全部安全、性能和穩定性更新(不包含 IE7)
。Service Pack 3 的主要新功能包括：‧黑洞路由偵測

‧安全選項介面更詳細
‧加強的管理員安全和服務策略入口
‧核心模式加密模組
‧Windows 產品啟用方式改變：在安裝整合 Service Pack 3 的 Windows XP 時，
可選擇不輸入序號安裝，可稍後輸入序號進行啟用。Service Pack 3 可在全新安裝的 Windows XP、SP1 或 SP2 上進行升級，支援媒
體中心版、Tablet PC 版的各種版本。但僅支援 32 位 x86 版本，x64 版本 XP需
要安裝的升級套件為 Windows Server 2003 SP2。
